EIR CLOSURE-practical 10

i describe my eir journey as a rainbow.


The different colours to the rainbow symbolises the many things I've learnt from taking up EIR.Also, a rainbow which is said to have no end symbolises the limitless heights I can achieve after learning so much from this CDS.

firstly, before taking up this cds, i have never ever created my own blog. after taking the cds, i learnt how to create my own blog and i think its kinda fun . i might continue to post on my blog even after i leave this cds!

now , we also have to create our own facebook page and wiki page. the purpose of facebook page(stop youth depression) is to ADVOCATE to people about our topics and the purpose of wiki page (causes and effect of youth depression)is to let the person know more information our topics. its also something new which i have never done before. i mean i have my own facebook page and i sometimes post on my wall. but creating a facebook ADVOCACY page is totally different and new to me. you have to be sure the information you post is relevant to the facebook page you are ADVOCATING about .

i also learnt that google is not the only search engine  in this world. there are also stuffs like databases, meta search engine and a whole lot more of others search tools which can give you more information about the stuffs you are looking for. this subject will really come in handy throughout my 3 years in Poly as research is a vital part in my assignments.

overall, i think i love this CDS. the information i served should aid me greatly throughout my 3 years in poly and even to after i graduate.

 

individual activity: site visit research findings

1.    Which features/facilities are more interesting to you? Why?

i really like this high definition video conferencing. i think it is amazing because people from far distances can communicate with one another. i like this feature because when im overseas alone, i can still see my parent using this technology.From this feature, I felt that it would be very useful for people who are living far away from their families/friends.

another facility i find interesting is the virtual makeup. we are able to capture our image and virtually try on make up to see if it suits us. We will then get information about the products and where to purchase them. It is in Olivia, South Korean whereby females can use the machine to test virtually whether they like the products a not.This is definitely good news for the females as majority of them find it troublesome to test make-up and this took a lot of time!

2.  Compare this site visit e-learning activity with attending physical EIR classes in TP.

i learnt many things in the site visit where i could not hav learnt in regular class in tp.i learnt  more in depth about the Next Gen NBN, IPTV and Cloud Computing. I've learnt that the Next Gen NBN is a wired network which can provide users with a broadband speed of up to 1Gbps.

i also learnt more about the features of an IPTV and its benefits. IPTV provides many services on the television which is connected to the internet and by only using the remote, we get to access to the many services conveniently.

i also learnt about cloud computing.i learnt about the major users of the cloud such as Apple and also how cloud computing can help in businesses. At the moment, the cloud is mostly used by SMEs as cloud computing saves costs.

SECURITY ISSUE

-user concern

-lack of security can lead to damage ,theft and lack of confidence.

-new services must be tested for security flaws.

-use of password is very important

iexperience has managed to come up with next gen nbn that can solve many of the ethical issues in lecture 11 and 12.

The Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN) is the wired network of the Next Generation National Info-communications Infrastructure (Next Gen NII). A project under the Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) master plan, it will transform Singapore into an intelligent nation and a global city, powered by info-communications.
The Next Gen NBN will reinforce the status of Singapore as an info-communications hub and open new doors to economic opportunities, business growth and social vibrancy. It is envisioned that this will eventually provide a nationwide ultra-high speed broadband access of 1Gbps and more, to all physical addresses including homes, schools, government buildings, businesses and hospitals. At the start of its operations, the network is expected to offer users a broadband speed of up to 1 Gbps.
By end-2010, 60 per cent of homes and offices can expect to have access to this new, ultra high-speed, all-fibre network. The network coverage is expected to reach 95 per cent by mid-2012. In the near future, there will be a wide range of services riding on Next Gen NBN, which will empower business users, home users, schools and learning institutions.

a) in wk 4 , i learnt to use a totally whole new wicked DEEP SEARCH TECHNOLOGY, also known as the invisible web. i have never ever in my life used the invisible web to search for resources. while searching the invisible web database, i realise there are pros and cons to it compared to normal search engines like google that i normally use.

Invisible web directories consist of vast information and help me to find exact information according to your requirements.  The advantage of invisible web directories is that they are limited to a particular category and offer narrow results upon search.

however there are also the cons  to it. not all the databases provide the required information i need. for example, my research topic is the causes and effects of youth depression. when i try to search for effect of youth depression in lexis singapore, no relevant search results came out as the databases only consisted of law-related stuff. i had to search for other databases that fit my research topic which is very time consuming.

the reason why invisible web could be more effective than search engine is that search engine

can result in far too many results to check properly. Results may not be in the most relevant order. Furthermore, More authorative sources maybe buried due to lack of popularity.

Sites are randomly crawled and indexed for keywords by software. Not even google can crawl all of the web, it is too vast. RESULTS ARE NOT EVALUATED FOR quality.


b)i would use PsycARTICLES because it is related to my research topic- causes and effect of youth depression.

it has many articles related to my topic. when i click on it, it give good info.

it state that one of the cause of teen depression is income .low income lead to higher psychological difficulties. IT IS RELATED TO MY RESEARCH TOPIC

a) My name is Lim Yang Ce. I have no nickname. I am from diploma in Business. My first hobby is playing video games. My second hobby is playing computer games and My third hobby is sleeping.

My favourite and greatest celebrity of all time is John Cena. He is the greatest hero of all time and he never gives up. Also, my favourite movie is transporter 3. It is an action film and the third installment. My favourite tv show is legend of seeker.

b) the hobby that i am quite  passionate about is swimming. the fastest and easiest way to learn swimming is to get a swimming instructor. a swimming instructor can teach you the safest and right techniques to swim. you will be able to swim safely under the guidance of a swimming instructor as a beginner.
